Clemson University

Nieri Department of Construction and Real Estate Development

Earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Science and Management (CSM) from Clemson University within the Nieri Department of Construction and Real Estate Development. A program renowned in the construction industry for its hands-on, practical approach and rigorous curriculum. The degree provided a strong foundation in construction principles, project management, and leadership, with courses focused on construction estimating, scheduling, and site supervision. In addition to the technical expertise gained through CSM, I pursued minors in Finance and Business Administration, which broadened my understanding of financial management and business operations. This combination of specialized construction knowledge and business insight has equipped me to approach complex projects with both technical precision and strategic perspective. Below you'll find a small sample of the coursework I completed during my time at Clemson University -

Clemson Construction Capstone Projects

Below you'll find three capstone projects completed during my time in the CSM program at Clemson, each showcasing the practical application of detailed quantity takeoffs, comprehensive estimates, and construction scheduling techniques.

Quantity Takeoffs

One of the capstone projects involved completing a detailed Quantity Takeoff (QTO) for Campus View Apartments, a 107-unit student housing development with retail below in Clemson. Using tools like Bluebeam, I analyzed construction drawings to measure and document all materials needed, such as concrete, steel, and finishes. These quantities were then organized into construction categories like site work, structural components, and interior finishes. This project highlighted the importance of precision and organization in planning large-scale construction projects.

Estimating

Another capstone project involved preparing a detailed estimate for the Shepard Hotel, a $30M, 67-room hotel with a restaurant below in Clemson. The process began with a comprehensive material takeoff from construction drawings, followed by the development of an estimate by defining the scope of work for each subcontractor. We contacted local subcontractors to gather pricing and ensured all trades were covered, leaving no gaps in the scope. This included reviewing bids, cross-checking for accuracy, and reconciling differences to create a complete and reliable estimate. This project emphasized the importance of collaboration, thoroughness, and attention to detail in managing complex construction budgets.

Scheduling

Another capstone project involved creating a detailed construction schedule for Oconee Christian Academy, using online scheduling software to plan the project efficiently. The schedule included a Gantt chart that outlined all tasks, highlighted the critical path, and optimized the sequence of activities to ensure timely completion. Key considerations included planning the laydown area for materials, coordinating workflow, and assessing potential risks that could impact the timeline. This project reinforced the importance of strategic planning and risk management in delivering successful construction projects on schedule.
